By this time many of you have surely had the pleasure of tasting the pastéis at Forcado, in St Gilles. This relatively new café is actually the continuation of a family tradition, baking since 1982 one of the best pastel de nata that I’ve had outside Portugal. On their new place you can seat comfortably on a comfy sofa and enjoy a good coffee with your favourite Portuguese treats, but also you can buy some Porto and of course also pick some extra pastéis to take home.
At Forcado the pastel de nata is the king, but they have also mastered very good variations of this sweet. And that is exactly what I’m going to show you today, a small selection of the different flavours you can buy to enjoy home or elsewhere.
The Classic
It’s creamy inside and crunchy on the outside. Perfect with a bit on cinnamon on top. Eat it warm!
The Raspberry
It was the surprise of the box. Didn’t expect it to be nice with the addition of a fruit flavour but, damn it’s GOOD! It’s really creamy but with the subtle touch of raspberries, making a very light and fresh pastel. A must try on your next visit to Forcado.
The Speculoos
This is my new all time favourite! It’s slightly more firm in texture and the touch of speculoos merges perfectly on flavor an size with the traditional idea of the pastéis. Try to eat only one…
The Choco
It’s widely known that chocolate enhances practically everything, and the pastéis are not an exception. A perfect 2 bites size treat to indulge yourself with the daily dosis of chocolate.
There are many more things that look as good as these beauties at Forcado, so make some time free on your busy agenda and visit them soon! It’s well worth it.
